Explaining Biomorph Growth
Abstract: Biomorphs are polycrystalline aggregates that self-assemble during inorganic precipitation reactions. The shape repertoire of these microstructures include sheets, helices, funnels, and coral-like structures. I will present a short introduction to this fascinating system and discuss a possible explanation of these life-like shapes in terms of nonlinear reaction-diffusion processes.
